What ailments or issues are helped by physical therapy and rehabilitation? - Two Hands Four Paws

Physical therapy and rehabilitation can help with a variety of issues. We often see animals with pain issues, but most commonly we're dealing with mobility issues related to joint problems, orthopedic issues, arthritis, tendon problems, soft tissue problems, or muscle issues. We also handle neurologic issues. Anything that's causing a mobility issue is something that we would aim to treat.

How can physical therapy and rehabilitation help my cat? - Two Hands Four Paws

Physical therapy and rehabilitation can help with pain and mobility issues. If you notice changes in your cat's behavior, such as a decrease in jumping or activity, that is a clear indication to seek help. What is involved in cat physical therapy and rehabilitation? - Two Hands Four Paws

There are many things involved in cat physical therapy and rehabilitation. We have to consider the cat's mindset as they are a bit different than dogs. We primarily address mobility issues, which may not always be easily recognized in cats. The methods we use for helping them with mobility and comfort include laser treatment, acupuncture, underwater treadmill, and sometimes manual therapies like massage. What we do greatly depends on what the cats will allow us to do, but usually, we can significantly improve their comfort with physical rehab.

Can acupuncture be used with other types of veterinary medicine? - Two Hands Fours Paws

Acupuncture works well either on its own or in conjunction with regular veterinary medicine. For instance, in treating a patient with lameness due to a torn cruciate or muscle strain, we'd assess if acupuncture alone is sufficient or if we need to add in pain control or anti-inflammatory treatments. But it works great either way, standalone or coupled with other treatments.

Is acupuncture painful? - Two Hands Fours Paws

Acupuncture itself is not painful. Often, patients don't even realize that the needles have been inserted. Occasionally, there can be a minor sensation at a pressure point that has bad energy, but this is temporary and less painful than injections like vaccines or blood drawing.

Is there more than one type of acupuncture? - Two Hands Fours Paws

There are four types of acupuncture. The most common is dry needling, where a needle is inserted into the skin at a certain pressure point. The second is electroacupuncture, which involves attaching electrodes to the needles to stimulate energy at those sites. The third type, chemo or acupuncture, involves using saline, vitamin B, or even the patient's own blood being injected into the pressure points for a longer effect. The last type is moxibustion, where an herb is burned over certain sites to stimulate heat in the area.

Does acupuncture work for dogs? - Two Hands Fours Paws

Acupuncture works for all species, including dogs. It's a practice that has been in use for over 3,000 years, originating in China for human treatment. It works for cats, lizards, birds, and even rabbits. While I can't confirm its effectiveness in fish, it's applicable to all other species I can think of.
