Will the spay or neuter be painful for my dog?

So the actual process itself shouldn't if they’re anesthetized, and pain management should be regulated well during that procedure. Postoperatively, however, we'll often send home anti-inflammatories to help with the inflammation and the pain.

Surgery is painful. We provide post-surgical pain relief for all dogs getting spayed or neutered. It's the same if you went for a lump removal or went for any surgical procedure yourself. You'll be provided with peri-operative pain relief and also pain medication to take afterward. So their pain is minimal, and the benefits vastly outweigh the small discomfort they get from surgery.

It is surgery, and it is an incision, so there can be a little bit of discomfort. But we give pain medication before, during, and after the surgery, including some pain medication to go home for you to give your pet, to keep them comfortable. We find that our animals do really well and seem comfortable pretty quickly after the procedure.

Like any surgery, we prioritize pain control for your dog. We administer pre-anesthetic medications and promptly initiate post-operative pain medication. As a result, the pain is typically minimal. Your dog will also receive pain medications to take home for a week.

There is pain involved with having any sort of procedure where you're cutting through the skin and going into the abdomen or going into the scrotum. However, we do everything we can with our anesthetic protocols as well as our pain management protocols to make sure that your pet is pain free during the procedure and after the procedure. They will also go home with pain medications to make sure that they stay comfortable at home.
