Is dog cancer treatment painful?

We try for it not to be. Our rules are, we don't want anybody in pain. We don't want anybody sick, and we don't want anybody starving. We want them to eat. We want them to feel good.

Chemotherapy is designed to put the dog in remission without causing any severe side effects. We also have a lot of medications to counteract them, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Cancer treatment in dogs is not necessarily painful. While surgery and IV treatments can induce pain or discomfort, your veterinarian will work with you and potentially a pain management specialist to provide appropriate pain management for your dog. The medications or treatments themselves are not known to be painful.
