The purpose of this position is to assist in the delivery of well planned, accurate, and orderly flow of patient care, treatments of hospitalized patients, triage of emergencies, and client service support, while following the APAH24 Core Values as a supportive and productive team member.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Client communication which demonstrates warmth, courtesy, and professionalism in all interactions.
- Exercise compassion and care in all interactions with patients.
- Follow established procedures in order to assist veterinarians with in-house and emergency examinations and facilitate the flow of clients and patients through the Inpatient department.
- Consult with veterinarians on a daily basis to plan each day’s activities.
- Keep doctors apprised of potential problems, discussions with clients, etc.
- Review medical records, technician case transfer, and patient alerts in order to discern the patient's needs and treatment plan.
- Safe patient handling and restraint per APAH24 protocol and according to Fear Free and CFP parameters.
- Ability to obtain appropriate and accurate signalment, history, and vitals per attending DVM and established APAH24 protocols in a safe, professional and timely manner.
- Notify the veterinarian when emergency patients in the exam room are ready to be seen.
- Advise the veterinarian of the information already known such as the nature of the visit, signalment, and history obtained from the owner, etc.
- Assist the veterinarian within the exam by restraining the animal, preparing forms, obtaining instruments, etc.
- Remain in the exam room until excused by the doctor.
- Ensure all procedures rendered during the visit are documented for proper billing.
- Ensure that all medications, procedures, notes, etc. have been documented in the medical record.
- Accurately dispense prescription medications as directed by veterinarians.
- Prepare prescription labels and appropriately package medications.
- Ensure that medications are added to the patient’s record, Smartflow treatment sheet, and appropriately charged to the client.
- Follow DEA and OSHA guidelines.
- Follow appropriate safety and handling of hazardous materials.
- Follow established hospital safety guidelines regarding radiographs, controlled drugs, animal handling, etc.
- Clean and straighten used exam rooms, radiology, treatment, and lab areas.
- Restock treatment and lab areas with supplies as needed. Assist other team members to keep the public areas of the practice clean and well maintained.
- Clean and maintain all medical equipment as required.
- Demonstrate initiative and teamwork in everyday duties, assisting other team members within the practice.
- Organize work area and exercise time management skills to maximize personal efficiency within the practice.
- Prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks in a calm, organized manner.
- Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The Emergency Assistant / Technician works under the direct supervision of the ECC Zone Manager, the indirect supervision of the Practice Manager and DVMs, and follows all current Standard Operating Procedures that are in place for each zone. Communicates in a professional manner with all other Team Members and DVMs. Work is reviewed in terms of adequacy of skills and services provided, with a special focus on Ethics, Performance, and Team Work.
Experience: Veterinary technician, 1 year (Preferred)
Education: High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Work authorization: United States (Preferred)
All Pets Animal Hospital was founded by Dr. Patrick Choyce in Katy, Texas, in 1990 in a small strip center on Mason Road. In 2011, Dr. Choyce opened the current state-of-the-art, award-winning facility, and this greatly expanded the number and types of services the hospital could offer to area pets.
In the last few years, the hospital has experienced dramatic growth, adding three veterinary associates to the practice and providing routine health care as well as 24-hour emergency care for pets in the area.
