Now Hiring at Prestige Animal Hospital for a Veterinary Assistant

The VA is a connection between the clients, doctors, and reception. She/he supports the veterinarian in ensuring quality care is delivered to all pets, advocates for pets and educates clients on all aspects of their pet’s health as well as making ensuring a safe and effective hospital environment. When in charge of a pet’s case the VA starts by taking patient history and TPR. She/he then enters the information collected into an electronic medical record and communicates it to the doctor. After the doctor puts a treatment plan together, she/he presents this plan to the client in such a way that the client will understand and comply and then communicates and coordinates approved medical treatment with the team. It is also the VA’s duty to make the check-out process with the receptionist as smooth as possible through data entry and communicating specific instructions regarding treatment and medications with the client beforehand. The VA also makes sure that their work areas (treatment, lab, surgery, pharmacy, etc.) are kept clean and stocked at all times. At times, the VA may also assist the receptionist in answering phone calls and making follow up and reminder calls. 

Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or knowledge of the veterinary field medicine is a plus but we are willing to train on the following subjects:
    • Vaccines
    • Common knowledge of diseases
    • Proper patient restraint
    • Technical skills such as venipuncture, IV catheter placement, administration of injections and more
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One-year related experience required

  • Ability to direct the flow of clients and their pets to make certain each client receives exceptional service
  • Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service to clients by properly educating them
  • Be an advocate of preventative care for animals and their needs as well as the hospital's services in order to encourage doctor visits
  • Ability to assist clients to complete any documents needed, proper restraint of their own pets, entering any information needed in the computer all to assure prompt service is delivered
  • Must take initiative in finding solutions to problems and present options and ideas that will improve the current situation
  • Ability to discharge a patient by providing the client with all necessary instructions, documents, invoices, and any prescriptions per the veterinarian as well as scheduling future appointments.
