The primary function of GVA Pet Care Staff is to assist the DVM and technical staff in the delivery of quality care to in-house pets, primarily boarders. Working under the direct supervision of the attending veterinarian and Patient Care Coordinator; the pet care staff is responsible for ensuring that quality veterinary care is provided in line with GVA standards.
The Pet Care staff is responsible for carrying out any task as directed by the Patient Care Coordinator, a DVM, or hospital management, which may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Treatment area assistance
- Boarding exam procedures
- Keep all grass areas clean and free of animal feces
- Animal restraint, as necessary
- Animal medicating, primarily oral route
- Admission and discharge procedures for boarders
- Assist receptionists when necessary, and assume those duties in an absence
- Ensure that all patients are clean and dry
- Assist groomers when necessary
- Bathe pets as needed
- Walk, feed, and oversee to the general well-being of all boarders
- Properly and legibly record treatments in records
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels for supplies
- Work as scheduled
- Follow all protocols in the kennel manual
- Understand the GVA vision, core values, and mission
- Oversee hospital cleanliness
Skills Required:
Computer literacy, the capability to lift 40lbs alone, interact with and restrain animals, work a minimum of 4 hours standing only, basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
The Pet Care staff must have knowledge of all procedures in the kennel manual, outpatient procedures, inpatient procedures, hospital protocols, medication administration, animal restraint, and sanitation.
Russell Ridge Animal Hospital (Russell Ridge or RRAH) is a multi-doctor practice located in Lawrenceville, Georiga, and is a member hospital of Georgia Veterinary Associates (GVA). Russell Ridge is open 7 days a week and has an excellent support staff, including multiple RVTs. RRAH is well equipped with digital imaging modalities, including a NewTom 5G CT unit, ultrasonography, digital x-ray for dentistry, and general imaging.
