Veterinarian and Owner
Dr. Ray Bishop was born in Highland, IL and grew up in Edwardsville, IL. From 1972 to 1978, Dr. Bishop attended the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in veterinary medicine. He was one of three students in his class who completed only 2-years of pre-vet studies before entering the program.
After completing veterinary college at the University of Illinois, Dr. Bishop was on staff at Bardens Animal Hospital in Lowell, Indiana until February of 1979. He then went to Berwyn Veterinary Associates, the most sophisticated of the referral hospitals in the Chicago area at that time. He worked as a staff veterinarian for a short time and then opened the third Chicago-land emergency clinic in the Berwyn Veterinary Associates facility. Four years later in March of 1983, he moved for Forest View, IL and specialized in emergency work for two additional years.
In 1985, Dr. Bishop transitioned his emergency clinic to an urgent care clinic that was open from 9 am to midnight 365 days a year. Several years later, the hours of operation transitioned to a full-service clinic that was open Monday through Saturday and was closed on nights, weekends and holidays. The name of Dr. Bishop’s business also changed from Animal Emergency Clinic, P.C. to Animal Health Care and Emergency Clinic, P.C. and finally to Animal Health Care, P.C.
On December 7, 1998, Dr. Bishop expanded operations to include his present location at 471 East 75th Street in Naperville, Illinois. The Forest View location ceased operations in March of 2003.
Dr. Ray Bishop and Animal Health Care, P. C. has helped tens of thousands of patients since first opening its doors to the public on March 31, 1979, at its initial Berwyn location and looks forward to helping tens of thousands more in future years.
