Veterinarian
Hi, I'm Dr. Mikaela Ball! I joined Cabarrus Animal Hospital as a new graduate in 2022 after earning my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science with a minor in Chemistry from Berry College, where I studied from 2014 to 2018. During my time at veterinary school, I gained extensive experience as a veterinary assistant in the intermediate care ward, urgent care ward, and emergency room. I am also a proud member of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV), the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians (AEMV), and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
I am Fear Free Certified (2022), having completed special courses to make pets feel relaxed and comfortable during veterinary visits, and am also a Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Veterinarian (2021) via The Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy, meaning that I am dedicated to ensuring the most peaceful experience possible during the most difficult moments for pet owners.
Favorite Part of my Job
I have a particular passion for emergency medicine, exotic animal medicine—especially reptiles—and feline urinary obstructions. The diversity and complexity of cases I encounter keep me engaged and inspired. However, the most gratifying aspect of my job is simply getting to work with animals daily; it never gets old.
Why I chose this profession
My journey into veterinary medicine began with my deep involvement in animal rescue. Growing up in a home where foster dogs frequently came and went, I found excitement and fulfillment in caring for these animals. This hands-on experience ignited my passion for veterinary medicine. I believe that caring for animals is uniquely rewarding, and it is an honor to do this work every day.
Personal Hobbies & Interests
In my personal time, I most enjoy being with my family, which includes my husband, Greg, and our three dogs: Chance, Boomer, and Fig. I am an avid reader with a particular love for science fiction, horror, thriller, and literary fiction novels. Additionally, I enjoy puzzles, board games, and video games, finding these activities to be great ways to unwind and have fun.
