Colrain Balch DVM

Veterinarian

Hi, I'm Dr. Colrain Balch. I graduated from McGill University in Montreal in 2000 with a BA in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, initially pursuing a very different career path. However, my time as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic sparked a new passion. While working on an animal husbandry project, I realized how deeply I wanted to help animals and the people who care for them.

This realization led me to pivot my career. I spent several years as a receptionist at a veterinary clinic in rural Maine while completing the science prerequisites I had missed during my undergraduate years. In 2007, I began my studies at Tufts University and earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2011, and have been practicing in New Hampshire ever since. I'm also a proud member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Favorite Part of my Job

While there's a lot I love about my job, I’m particularly passionate about feline medicine, preventive care, and nurturing the human-animal bond. Every day in veterinary practice brings unique challenges, and I love the variety of cases and getting to hear stories about the animals I treat from their owners.

Personal Hobbies & Interests

Outside of work, I enjoy spending my time baking, cooking, gardening, and knitting. These hobbies, while quite different from my work in the clinic, allow me to relax and express my creativity, whether it’s in the kitchen or through crafting.
