Veterinary Assistant
Hi, I’m Christy Howell, a veterinary assistant at Briar Patch Veterinary Hospital. I’ve always had a passion for animals, but working in a veterinary hospital really made me fall in love with caring for them and being part of their healing journey.
My first job at 15 was on a small dairy farm in Homer, NY, and that experience sparked my interest in animal care. I graduated from Groton High School in 2018, and just a month before that, I earned my Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts: General Studies from Tompkins Cortland Community College.
Favorite Part of my Job
One of my favorite parts of the job is getting to watch ultrasounds; it’s so fascinating! But more than anything, I love helping sick animals feel better and seeing them return to their happy, healthy selves.
Why I chose this profession
Right after high school, I started working at Countryside Veterinary Hospital as a kennel attendant. It was there that my interest in small animal care really grew, and I knew I wanted to continue helping animals in any way I could.
Personal Hobbies & Interests
Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and spending time with my family and pets.
