Veterinarian
Hello! I'm Dr. Abby Claytor. I graduated from Clemson University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and Sciences, and I earned my DVM from Auburn University in 2020. During my studies, I completed a working externship with Dr. Paul Bosse at Commonwealth Animal Hospital in Lexington, KY, and later moved to Savannah, GA, for my preceptorship at Berwick Animal Hospital in the spring of 2020. By November, I was working part-time as a surgeon at Pet Fix Savannah and part-time as a general practitioner at Port City Animal Hospital, which quickly became my permanent, full-time clinic. I’m proud to have been with Port City Animal Hospital for four years now.
While I could work anywhere, Port City truly feels like home. I’m incredibly grateful to be part of a team that shares my dedication and passion for exceptional veterinary care. The camaraderie and commitment here make each day fulfilling, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
As a veterinarian, I'm dedicated to staying up to date with the latest in the industry and am a proud member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the National Veterinary Accreditation Program (NVAP).

Favorite Part of my Job
Soft tissue surgery is my favorite area within veterinary medicine. I also enjoy the challenge of working up cases that haven’t received thorough diagnostics and providing much-needed answers. Making a difference in the lives of pets and their families brings me a great sense of fulfillment.
Why I chose this profession
From a young age, I felt called to medicine, influenced by my mother, who is a pediatrician. However, I had a particular fondness and patience with animals, which ultimately led me down the path of veterinary medicine. I initially considered pursuing a specialty as a board-certified veterinary surgeon, but my love for general practice and working closely with families and their pets solidified my career as a general practitioner.
Personal Hobbies & Interests
When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me engaged in home DIY projects, interior decorating, or enjoying outdoor activities like gun and bow hunting. I also love cheering for the Clemson tigers and spending time with my two Labradors, Harper and Rose
