How can I tell if my dog’s eye is injured?

There're a lot of things you can look for. Eye injuries can be very painful. We both had them, we've known people who've had them. So you can look for signs of pain like holding the eyes shut, squinting hard, shying away if you go to pet or touch them or touch the eye, pawing at the face, redness, and swelling are all symptoms of an injury. If a dog has something in its eye, it's going to be painful.

The best way to determine if your dog's eye is injured is by visually examining the eye. Look for abnormalities such as redness, discharge, excessive tearing, or squinting. Other signs may include the dog refusing to open its eye, swollen eyelids, or the presence of a cyst or growth on the eye. These are indicators that something is wrong and needs to be checked out.

Usually, your dog will show signs of discomfort. They may wink at you, keep their eye closed, or have excessive tearing. Tears may spill down the nasal area, and they may even sneeze due to the tears running into their nose. The eye might also appear red and irritated.
