As part of the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood Metropolitan area, our city is a military boomtown that brings in a lot of the local population. Our city is bordered by Harker Heights, Fort Hood, and Belton. It also provides easy access to I-35.

You’ll find plenty of ways to pass the time in Killeen. The Vive Les Arts Theatre is a local full-time organization that celebrates the arts with regular shows. Additionally, the people here can enjoy an active lifestyle thanks to the many parks in the area. Hiking is also available through the Andy K. Wells Hike and Bike Trail and Lions Club Park Hike and Bike Trail. Plus, you’ll find many 5K and 10K events throughout the year.

Our city also hosts a variety of fun events throughout the year. Celebrate Killeen is a favorite event held in May and put on by the city itself. Arts, crafts, and food are a major component of the event. Here, you’ll find international foods and exciting entertainment.

The economy of Killeen has developed quickly since its first days. Today, the top employers in the city include Fort Hood, the local school district, Central Texas College, Advent Health, First National Bank, and the city. As you can see, the military base has had a major impact on the city’s development economically.

The history of Killeen dates back to the name of an employee for the Santa Fe Railroad in the late 1800s, Frank P. Killeen. The city was officially established in 1882 when the first train stopped in the city. In 1942, the population grew when Camp Hood was developed in the midst of World War II. Later, the camp would be renamed Fort Hood.

Many notable figures have lived in Killeen over the years. These people include R&B singer Amerie, athlete Don Hardeman, athlete Tommie Harris, athlete Cory Jefferson, actor Burgess Meredith, actresses Tia and Tamera Mowry, R&B singer Ciara, and actor Burt Reynolds. Additionally, Elvis Presley was briefly stationed at Fort Hood. The city also has a sister city, Osan, South Korea. Its twin city is San Juan, Puerto Rico.
