History

In 1988, Dr. Counts opened her practice in, and quickly outgrew, a small, 1,000 sq. ft. facility. In 1989, she designed and constructed a larger, 2,500 sq. ft. facility which contained two exam rooms, one surgery room, a reception area and multiple kennels for both hospitalized and surgery patients. As the practice continued to grow, 1998 saw SAC adding another 2,500 sq. ft. SAC now had state-of-the-art exam rooms, an additional surgery room, treatment room, two offices, an isolation ward, additional kennel runs and also offered grooming and boarding services. In January of 2007, Dr. Counts welcomed Tim Wells, RVT, as an equal partner of the practice. After the partnership was formed, he and Dr. Counts began exploring the idea of expanding the business once again, debating whether to remodel the existing facility or build a new one. A brand new facility won out. In July of 2011, Shawnee Animal Clinic broke new ground directly next door to the existing facility. With 13,000 sq. ft., the boarding and grooming facilities are separated from the medical practice. Currently, there are separate dog and cat waiting areas, seven exam rooms, as well as the Moochie and Company Boutique.
