"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
-Gandhi
Mission
Our philosophy at AHN holds that anything, within reason, that can be done to maintain our pet's optimal health is worth exploring; however, more medicine is not necessarily better medicine. The benefits of any treatment, whether it is a test, a medication, or a surgical procedure, are always compared to the potential risks. For this reason we think that every pet deserves a health-care approach that is tailored to that particular animal's needs and lifestyle.

History
For over 75 years, the Animal Hospital of Niskayuna has been proudly serving the veterinary needs of the community of Niskayuna, New York. The practice was originally established in 1936 by Dr. Ken Friderici and was known as the Friderici Animal Hospital. In 1955, Dr. Ken's nephew, Dr. Art, joined the veterinary hospital and upon Dr. Ken's retirement in 1962, became the sole owner of the practice.
In 1993, Dr. Ron Scharf bought the Friderici Animal Hospital from Dr. Art and renamed it the Animal Hospital of Niskayuna. He is proud to be a part of the history of his veterinary hospital and strives to maintain the trusting and compassionate reputation the hospital was founded on.
Dr. Scharf believes in the importance of thorough nursing care in the delivery of veterinary medicine. He maintains that the "human touch" is essential, and can often mean the difference between success or failure to a canine or feline friend recovering from an illness or injury.
